Obituary
Carl Kohlweck was born on November 21, 1946 in Los Angeles, California, to Clifford and Helene Newman Kohlweck. While studying history and political science at UCLA, Carl served as a dedicated member of the Theta Delta Chi fraternity and a four year letterman in crew. While at UCLA, Carl met his wife of 53 years, Janet Sieg Kohlweck.
Carl and Janet lived in Rancho Palos Verdes for 37 years, where they raised their daughters, Christine and Lindsay Kohlweck. Carl received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law. He later became General Counsel to Cogent Systems in Pasadena, California.
Carl passed away May 10, 2023 and is survived by his wife, Janet, his daughter, Christine and her husband, Jed, of Harvard, MA and their son, Connor Reitler of Washington DC. Carl is also survived by his younger daughter, Lindsay Kaufman’s (1980- 2017) family, Robert, Clayton and Ella Lee of Prescott, AZ.
Carl and Janet shared a number of passions, including adventure travel, photography, painting, camping and entertaining. Memories of Carl will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved him. Carl’s favorite charity was Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
A Memorial Service and Mass was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prescott, AZ on August 12th, 2023. In keeping with Carl’s colorful life and personality, he encouraged friends and family to wear casual colorful clothing to his memorial service.
